J&J Snack Foods, the US snack maker, posted a 48% increase in full-year net earnings yesterday (3 November), on the back of a “strong” performance in the company’s Country Home Bakers division.


Net earnings increased to US$41.3m from $27.9 million in fiscal 2008.


Operating income increased 54% to reach $66.9m for the 52-week period.


Gerald Shreiber, J&J’s president and CEO said: “Continued strong and improving performance from all our business groups contributed to our results for the quarter and the year. Country Home Bakers, our cookie, biscuit and speciality bread business, had an outstanding year. Overall, we benefited from cost containment while driving sales value.”


Sales for the fiscal year ended 26 September increased 4% to $653m.
