Mr. Fahlin, 62, recently announced that he was stepping down as Chairman and CEO of ICA Ahold AB. He joined the ICA group in 1970 and was appointed to its Board in 1985. He became Chairman and CEO of ICA Ahold AB last April following the merger of the two retail groups. Mr. Fahlin will serve his full term as Chairman of CIES – The Food Business Forum until the Atlanta Summit meeting in June 2002.


Royal Ahold is the leading Dutch retail group and operates around 8,500 supermarkets, hypermarkets and other stores in Europe, the U.S., Latin America and Asia. Ahold also operates a large food service business in the U.S. through its subsidiary, U.S. Foodservice, and now has an important e-commerce interest through its majority stake in leading U.S. internet grocer Peapod. Ahold’s total annual sales rose to 52 billion euros in 2000.


CIES – The Food Business Forum is a unique, truly international food business network, strategically placed at the interface between retailers and suppliers.
Its membership is made up of 250 major food retail companies drawn from some 48 countries, together with an equal number of their suppliers worldwide.
The combined sales of CIES retailer and suppliers member companies are worth over US$2,800 billion. CIES retailer members alone generate over US$2,000 billion, employ 4 million people and operate close to 600,000 stores, representing a total sales area of 160 million square metres.
