John F. Woodhouse, Retired Chairman and CEO of Sysco Corp., the country’s largest foodservice marketing and distribution company, was elected to The Food Institute Board at the Elmwood Park, NJ-based association’s most recent Board meeting.
Larry Abramson, president of Camerican International and chairman of The Food Institute’s Board said, “we’re absolutely delighted to have someone of John’s capabilities and stature on our Board and look forward to his active participation in furthering the Institute’s mission.”
Mr. Woodhouse, who earned his MBA at Harvard Business School in 1955, and his BA from Wesleyan University, joined Sysco Corp. at its formation in 1969 as Chief Financial Officer and a founding director. He was elected Executive Vice President in 1971, president and COO in 1972, CEO in 1983 and became Chairman in 1985. In January 1995 Mr. Woodhouse became Chairman of the Board and chairman of the executive committee and in January 1999 was named Senior Chairman. Mr. Woodhouse retained the position of Senior Chairman until Dec. 31, 2000.
In addition to serving on the board of The Food Institute, Mr. Woodhouse serves as Director of the Boards of Shell Oil Co., Food Distributors International, Associates of Harvard Business School, the Board of Advisors of The Retail Food Industry Center at the University of Minnesota, as a trustee for Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA, and is an Elder of the Presbyterian Church. He was formerly the Vice Chairman of The Board of Trustees of Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT and currently is Chairman of that university’s ONE QUARTER OF A BILLION DOLLAR CAPITAL CAMPAIGN.
