The Spanish arm of French retailing giant Carrefour has revealed plans to divest its restaurant unit Centros de Neorestauracion SA (Cenesa) as part of a strategy to focus on its distribution business.

Centros Comerciales Carrefour Espana SA will sell the 96-outlet strong Cenesa to a group of investors, which includes restaurant chains California and Zena. As yet no financial details have been released.
During 2000, the group recorded a net profit of €1.7m at Cenesa, 0.52% of Carrefour’s consolidated profit. Sales meanwhile amounted to 0.72% of the consolidated group sales, reaching €49.8m.
