Brussels says that because this is based on a scientific risk assessment of the potential health risks, it has complied with a World Trade Organisation ruling opposing its ban and authorising the tariffs.
Talking to the Financial Times, an unnamed US official said the “scientific evidence” used by the EU “shows that the use of these hormones…did not pose a risk to human or animal health. We have not seen any new risk assessment”.
