French chocolate maker Cémoi has invested EUR50m (US$73.7m) in a production plant in Perpignan, in south-west France, to supply markets in southern Europe.
Scheduled to be fully operational before the end of the month and offering an annual capacity of 55,000 tonnes, the plant replaces an existing manufacturing facility in Perpignan, as well as Cémoi’s plant in Barcelona, which was destroyed by fire two years ago.
The new facility has led to the creation of 80 new jobs and also accommodates the 220 staff from the former plant in Perpignan, the site of which will be renovated to house an R&D centre, a pilot plant and the company’s HQ.
Cémoi has around 10 production plants in Europe and one in Abidjan, in the Ivory Coast and employs 3,000 staff. It psoted a 2008 turnover of EUR700m.
