McNair, who has 20 years of experience in the food industry, will oversee the sales of marketing of Tyson products, including deli, processed meats and retail.

McNair, 44, has spent the last seven years at the US group, where he was most recently senior vice president of case ready meats.

He replaces Rob DeMartini, who joined Tyson in 2006 but is leaving to become CEO of footwear group New Balance Athletic Shoe.

Bill Lovette, Tyson’s senior group vice president of poultry and prepared foods, called McNair “a proven leader”. He added: “We believe he has the skills to capitalize on the organizational progress made during Rob’s tenure, which has included renewed focus on creating demand and growing our business.”
