After two difficult years, France’s ice cream sector staged a recovery in 2006, trade figures have revealed.
Consumption was up 2.4% at 372.3m gallons, generating a turnover of EUR1.7bn, up 1.2%. The upturn is largely attributed to the hot weather in July last year and significant product innovation – 10.5% of the current market offering did not exist two years ago.
Last year, retailer own brands gained market share leadership in the sector pushing long-established front-runner Unilever into second place . Nestlé was ranked third.
France’s frozen foods sector also reported growth with total sales up 3.8% to EUR7.57bn.
