Seventy-six people who contracted salmonella poisoning from eating ConAgra Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter produced at the company’s manufacturing facility in Sylvester, Georgia, have joined forces to sue ConAgra.
ConAgra issued a recall of products manufactured at the site dating back to October 2004 after the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention linked a mass outbreak of salmonella poisoning to ConAgra’s peanut butter. According to CDC, it is believed that more than 425 people have fallen ill as a direct consequence of Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter consumption.
The lawsuit represents individuals from 26 different states and includes two wrongful death claims.
The plaintiffs have hired Masry & Vititoe and Girardi & Keese to represent them. The group, Masry & Vititoe said, is seeking general damages, special damages and punitive damages.
