The discovery of mad cow disease in Poland’s national herd has led bordering Baltic states to ban beef and cattle imports from the country.
Officials and news media in Latvia and Estonia revealed the decision to ban imports after news of the first BSE case in Poland broke at the weekend.
Estonia’s veterinary service said that its ban would last for five years, meanwhile Latvian officials are enforcing the ban with increased checks on imports at the country’s borders.
