Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. has named Thomas D. Hyde, formerly senior vice president and general counsel of Raytheon Company, to the new position of executive vice president and senior general counsel. Hyde, 52, will assume his new duties at Wal-Mart in mid-July and report directly to Lee Scott, president and CEO of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.
In this position, Hyde will be responsible for overseeing the legal activities and affairs of Wal-Mart’s worldwide operations.
Robert K. Rhoads, 46, Wal-Mart’s senior vice president, general counsel and secretary, will remain in his current position and report to Hyde.
“Tom Hyde is a talented executive who will add depth and a breadth of international experience to our senior management team,” Scott said. “As our senior general counsel, Tom will oversee a challenging area of our business that is taking on an increasingly prominent role for growing multinational companies such as Wal-Mart. However, Tom also is a generalist and we expect that he will add value throughout our organization.”
Hyde has been with Raytheon since 1992. There, he has been responsible for the following functions: legal, corporate secretarial, ethics, export control, real estate, insurance, environment, and health and safety.
Prior to joining Raytheon, Hyde served in a number of key legal, financial, international and general management positions for several companies including Denver-based Manville Corporation, a building products manufacturer; and St. Louis-based Emerson Electric, a diversified manufacturing company.
