The complaint comes in response to a similar gripe filed in May by American
growers, who claim Canadians are selling tomatoes at lower costs in US markets than in their own.
The Alliance claims the C$3bn (US$1.99bn) Canadian greenhouse sector is suffering because of cheap US field tomatoes, but deny they are guilty of dumping tomatoes south of the border. It has release statistics saying that US farmers shipped 141,000 tonnes of tomatoes worth C$247m to Canada last year, while Canadian farmers shipped 101,000 tonnes worth C$244m to the United States.
