Speaking at a Business Leaders Initiative on Climate Change press conference at Almedalen Week in Visby, Axfood president and CEO Anders Strålman emphasised the company’s commitment to improving its environmental record.


“Axfood will be working to achieve energy efficiency gains and to review its electricity purchasing, with a focus on switching to renewable energy sources,” he revealed.


“In the field of energy, Axfood has great scope to reduce its environmental impact and at the same time cut the cost of operating stores and warehouses,” Strålman added.


Ahead of major structural changes, Axfood now draws up environmental impact statements, the company revealed. This, a spokesperson told just-food, is becoming an increasingly important aspect of planning for the company.
