Thai food manufacturer Sunkumpaeng Dairy has been banned from selling its products to the School Milk Programme after the Livestock Department found the protein content of its milk was too low.

According to a report in the Krungthep Turakij newspaper, the protein content of milk produced under the Sunkumpaeng Dairy Farm brand was just 1.4%, considerably below the acceptable minimum of 2.8%. Officials are investigating whether the dairy has mixed powdered milk into its products, which is prohibited for products destined for the School Milk Programme.
The Livestock Department, the Cooperatives Promotion Department and the Dairy Cooperative Association of Thailand had linked up to inspect dairies in the north of Thailand and test milk samples. The Livestock Department has suspended Sunkumpaeng’s involvement in the Programme as of 15 February until the company improves the quality of its products.
