UK retail group the John Lewis Partnership (JLP) has announced the appointment of Tony Solomons as customer development director, a newly created role, at its supermarket operation Waitrose.

The appointment takes effect from 29 January 2007.
“Waitrose has ambitious development plans over the coming years,” said JLP chairman Sir Stuart Hampson. “This new post will help to achieve these by strengthening our focus on customers’ evolving expectations in all aspects of the way we develop the Waitrose business.”
Solomons, 54, is currently supply chain director at Waitrose, and a member of the Waitrose board. He joined JLP in 1982 as a Waitrose trainee, rising to become personnel director in 1991.
