Goodman Fielder, Australia’s largest listed food company, has applied to the New Zealand Commerce Commission seeking clearance to acquire the flour and bread assets of River Mill Bakeries.


Goodman Fielder spun-off from Burns Philip last year in a A$2.1bn floatation. It is listed on the Australian and New Zealand stock exchanges. The company manufactures and supplies ingredients and food products. Its bread brands include Vogel’s, Quality Bakers, Freya’s, and Molenburg. Goodman Fielder currently operates flourmills in Mount Maunganui and Christchurch.


River Mill Bakeries is a privately owned bread and ingredients manufacturer primarily involved in the production of pizza bases, frozen goods and cookies. River Mill owns Canterbury Flour Mills in Ashburton, NZ.
