Dr John Blatherwick, chief medical health officer for the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, said yesterday [Sunday] that two women are affected in the new cases. One in the Greater Vancouver area is already confirmed as suffering from hepatitis A, while another in Calgary is awaiting laboratory confirmation, expected today.
Capers Community Store recalled eleven sauces and salad dressings last month after they came in contact with a former food handler diagnosed with hepatitis.
Wild Oats Markets, which owns Capers, said it had been told to expect further cases. More than 6,000 customers have received a hepatitis A vaccine since the health warning was issued.
