Sri Lanka’s Institute of Post Harvest Technology has launched a training and technical assistance scheme to save 9,000 million rupees (US$100m) annually by reducing waste in the fruit and vegetable industry. Help will be given to producers, wholesalers, retailers, dealers and agricultural officials. The institute claims that 40% of produce is damaged.
