General Mills will discontinue two of its reduced sugar cereal varieties due to slow sales, replacing them with new Disney branded products.
The company will replace its slow-selling reduced-sugar Cocoa Puffs and Trix this month, with cereals featuring Disney’s Mickey Mouse, Princess and Little Einsteins characters.
General Mills followed Kellogg’s introduction of reduced sugar varieties two years ago, but is now launching Disney branded varieties, which must adhere to Disney’s nutritional guidelines limiting sugar and fats in branded products.
General Mills will continue selling a reduced-sugar version of Cinnamon Toast Crunch sweetened with Splenda, and the company announced that it is also developing new healthier cereals, yogurt and soup.
