UK-based food distributor Retail Brands has announced it has joined up with distribution firm Food Brokers to increase the availability in the UK of Carbolite, the popular US low carb confectionery product range.

Retail Brands said sandwich chain Benjy’s and health and beauty chain Superdrug are the first UK outlets to stock the Carbolite range and have so far reported its success. The company is now trying to encourage other retailers to offer the confectionery range.

Carbolite said in October that it had sold nine million of its CarboRite bars in September in the US, up from seven million in June.

In order to meet the expected UK demand, Retail Brands said it had formed a partnership with Food Brokers, and its specialist pharmacist division, Chemist Brokers, to increase the immediate distribution reach for Carbolite across a spectrum of channels through the retail and pharmacy trade.

Demand for low carbohydrate foods has increased dramatically with the popularity of the Atkins diet.
