The merged entity will have more than a 50% share of the mass grocery retail (MGR) market in Colombia, followed by Carrefour, which controls approximately 18% of the market, according to Business Monitor International.

Exito is also barred from imposing exclusivity clauses or establishing any ‘preferential treatment’ with suppliers, but just how the practices are to be overseen is unknown, the news service said.

The merged company will have to sell nine stores currently owned by Carulla and two currently owned by Exito, reported Americas Food and Drink Insight.
