Environmental Quality Minister Alun Michael outlined proposals in which fastfood outlets will have to keep the area around their shop free of litter and to ensure other areas are cleaned up weekly, reported BBC News Online.
If fastfood outlets do not agree to the proposals voluntarily, then the government may consider legislation that will enable it to close down offending outlets.
Fastfood outlets, from burger chains to fish and chip shops, will be asked to provide litter bins for their customers and also to display the anti-litter message on posters, the BBC said.
