Goodman Fielder, the Australia-based food group, has told just-food there is potential for consolidation in the country’s biscuit sector.


The group, which is revamping its business by looking to dispose its “non-core” assets, plans to boost its presence in the Australian biscuit market after completing the restructuring of Paradise Food Industries.


Goodman bought Brisbane-based Paradise last year in a A$78.8m (US$56m) deal. The acquisition signalled Goodman’s entry into biscuits in Australia.


A spokesman for Goodman told just-food today (13 May) that the company’s revamp at Paradise had “significantly reduced operating costs”.


Goodman is “exploring” the “potential for consolidation” in the biscuit sector, the spokesman said, although he declined to comment further.

Last week, Goodman outlined plans to offload its wholesale commercial oils unit to focus more on branded businesses.


The spokesman refused to be drawn on how much interest had been registered in the oils operation.
