Walker’s Crisps, a UK snack food subsidiary of PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay, has successfully defended its production processes in an Irish courtroom. Kathleen Corban, a consumer from Galway, claimed to have found a live earwig in a packet of crisps she purchased last year.

The court found that the insect could not have survived in the packet since it was sealed a month prior to opening, and dismissed the claim. £800 (US$1,172) in costs was also awarded to Walker’s Crisps.
