Israeli food importer G. Willi-Food International today (20 April) revealed that it was served with a class action lawsuit on 16 April, alleging that the company misled its customers by illegally marking a product that it sells as “sugar free”.

According to the unnamed plaintiff, the company said, the lawsuit represents 2,000 customers who purchased the product because it was sugar free.


The plaintiff appraises its own damages at NIS2,000 (US$500). The damages sought for the entire group total NIS4m.


“At this preliminary stage, the company is examining the plaintiff’s alleged claims, and it will respond and relate to the allegations, to the extent necessary, after its examination and after consulting with its legal advisors,” G. Willi-Food said.
