Workers at a United Biscuits site in the UK city of Liverpool have started a petition to drum up opposition against rumoured plans that the McVitie’s maker plans to move 170 jobs to India.

UK trade union Unite said workers at the Binns Road site face an “uncertain future” while the business mulls proposals to transfer jobs abroad.


Tomorrow (18 April), workers from the facility will head to Liverpool city centre to encourage public support for the petition.


Unite regional officer Debbie Brannan said: “United Biscuits is owned by private equity firms Blackstone and PIA whose only motive is profit. It is the hard-working staff who have made this company profitable and they deserve to be treated a lot better than this.”


Officials at United Biscuits and Blackstone could not be reached for immediate comment.
