The Boulder, Colo-based company explained that 5% Days are a means to give something back to its stores’ local communities and increase sales. Chief marketing officer Terry Maloy, said: “We feel this is our opportunity to give back to local organisations that really need our support.
“Last year, we donated more than US$1.2m to local community nonprofit groups.
“We hope that our customers will make a point to come into our stores on March 18th so that we can donate a significant amount to local charities on our first 5% Day in 2002.”
The charities are selected through an application process with regard to their consistentcy with the company’s mission of “promoting health and well being”.
