The Indian arm of UK confectionery giant Cadbury has said it has launched an investigation into reports that live insects have been found in its Dairy Milk chocolate bars.

Public health officials in the state of Maharashtra said they have ordered the seizure of all Dairy Milk products in the state, starting with stockists in Bombay, reported BBC News Online.
Uttam Khobragarhe, chief of the state’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA), told the BBC it had found insects, some alive and some dead, in two different samples of Dairy Milk.
He added that he would demand an explanation from the company, but if the response is not satisfactory he is authorised to close Cadbury’s factories in the state.
Cadbury said just one infestation had been found and that it was more likely to have been caused by the way the retailer stored the chocolates than by a factory problem.
