The Australia New Zealand Food Authority (ANZFA) has called for the food industry to comment on a proposal to drop restrictions on the level of antibiotic residues in poultry, honey and other products.

The plan is among several amendments to the food standards code.

ANZFA managing director Ian Lindenmayer is cited in the Adelaide Advertiser newspaper as saying the authority believed that the changes did not represent an unacceptable risk to public health and safety.

Any comments should be made to ANZFA by 21 November.
