The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) has detected excessive amounts of melamine in coated peanuts produced by Menken Orland for Dutch retailer Ahold.

The CAFIA has, as a precaution, withdrawn all imported batches of the product – Oriental mix packaged in 225g bags with a best-before date of 14 July 2009 and batch number 1/9034/8.
“In total, 4,528 pieces of this batch were withdrawn. However, the limit set for melamine was exceeded only slightly, thus the foodstuff does not pose a direct health risk,” the CAFIA said.
Oriental mix is the first officially sampled Chinese-imported food on Czech territory in which an exceeding amount of melamine was detected since September 2008.
