Until now, EU funding has usually depended on a national industry organisation being able to channel this money appropriately.
However, under reforms approved by the EU Council of Ministers, national governments can put campaigns within member states out to tender “in the absence of [existing national] programmes”.
Member states can also ask an international organisation for a particular foodstuff to help with non-EU country campaigns, on for instance table olives, said a council note.
