Nestlé UK has announced plans to reduce waste by replacing plastic packaging in its Easter eggs with recyclable cardboard alternatives.

The move will be extended to a third of the company’s eggs, including its Smarties, Kit-Kat, Aero and Milky Bar brands.


Nestlé has estimated that this would reduce non-recyclable waste by about 700 tonnes.


Additionally, Nestlé said the sweets inside the Smarties and Milky Bar eggs will be loose rather than packaged in plastic.

“Consumers have told us that they find plastic Easter egg packaging bulky and difficult to recycle,” David Rennie, managing director of Nestle Confectionery, said.
