UK supermarket giant Safeway has revealed that amorous couples have cost the chain £250,000.

Store managers up and down the country had complained repeatedly that the low-level lighting common to the wine and spirits aisles was attracting huge numbers of couples wanting a quick snog.

“It’s been happening all over the place, certainly at High Street Kensington, but other hot spots are Birmingham and Kent,” press officer Alex Philpott told the Daily Telegraph.

The group responded to the situation by buying brighter lights for its alcohol aisles, in the hope that frisky shoppers will start to express their passions with indulgent purchases rather than on each other.
