US grocery giant Kroger has expanded its recall of ice cream products due to the peanut butter salmonella scare affecting manufacturers and retailers nationwide.
The retailer said yesterday (20 January) that it was pulling the “Light” version of its Private Selection Light Peanut Butter Passion ice cream.
The line recalled is sold in 56-ounce containers with a sell-by date of 13 August 2009.
The recall follows Kroger’s move to pull its Private Selection Peanut Butter Passion Ice Cream in 48-ounce and 56-ounce containers. The 48-ounce packs have a use-by date of 13 September 2009; the larger containers have a use-by date of 11 August.
Kroger said the affected products were on sale in six of its chains, including City Market and Fred Meyer, in 11 states.

To date, 485 people have been infected across 43 states and in Canada. Six deaths have been linked to the outbreak.
