Système U, the French retail co-operative, is looking to open up to 20 new stores this year, the company has confirmed to just-food.

The retailer has earmarked 15-20 store openings, a spokesman for the company said.

The spokesman said the new stores would “mainly” be supermarkets.

As of the end of November last year, Système U had 899 stores in its estate, including 54 Hyper U hypermarkets, 701 supermarkets, 128 Marché U outlets and 16 U Express stores.

Système U has also planned for an expansion programme that will see the company expand its current store network by over 84,000 sq metres.
