Système U, the French retail co-operative, is looking to open up to 20 new stores this year, the company has confirmed to just-food.
The retailer has earmarked 15-20 store openings, a spokesman for the company said.
The spokesman said the new stores would “mainly” be supermarkets.
As of the end of November last year, Système U had 899 stores in its estate, including 54 Hyper U hypermarkets, 701 supermarkets, 128 Marché U outlets and 16 U Express stores.
Système U has also planned for an expansion programme that will see the company expand its current store network by over 84,000 sq metres.

By GlobalDataMore than 64,000 sq metres will also be added to the estate through rival banners, including Intermarché stores, joining the Système U network, the spokesman said.
The spokesman declined to comment on the level of investment planned for the company’s expansion programme.
