UK union Unite has said that it hopes negotiations with Bakkavor could prevent some of the 400 redundancies announced by the Icelandic food manufacturer last week.

The union said that it aims to minimise job losses at Bakkavor’s Spalding, Freshcook and Kirton factories.
“The union is determined to resist a proposed 400 redundancies across the three sites,” Unite said in a statement today (12 January).
When contacted by just-food, a spokesperson for Bakkavor emphasised that it was “early days” for the negotiations.
Bakkavor entered into the mandatory 90-day consultation period with employees on 29 December at two of the three sites and on 30 December for the remaining facility.
