Arla Foods UK has launched a black mould cheese as part of its Castello range.
Black Castello is the “first black mould cheese in the UK”, the company said and is made with black mould and a combination of cow and sheep’s milk.
Launched this month, the GBP1m (US$1.54m) brand is being supported by a GBP2.1m marketing programme during 2008.
Sam Dolan, brand manager said: “Repeat purchase (24%) already tells us that consumers love the taste of the Castello blue and white cheeses. Now comes the strongest and most intriguing member of the family – black. It will drive a point of interest for retailers and consumers within the speciality cheese category.”
The Castello range also includes White and Blue Castello.
