A federally created committee has said it has agreed on draft standards for the voluntary labelling of genetically modified foods.
The standards have yet to be approved by the Canadian General Standards Board, a process that could take some months.
Environmental lobby group Greenpeace criticised the draft standards, arguing that labelling of GM foods should be mandatory, not voluntary.
Greenpeace was among several anti-GM groups that refused to join the 128-member committee, saying it was dominated by the food industry, reported the Canadian Press.
