The job cuts will affect supervisory and administrative positions at the retailer’s corporate offices, distribution centres and field staff offices in the Midwest, reported the Associated Press.
Most of the job cuts will occur at the company’s Walker, Michigan headquarters and its nearby offices.
The company said the decision was part of a corporate restructuring aimed at increasing Meijer’s competitive position in the supercentre discount store sector.
