Hain Celestial, the US natural and organics group, has restructured its business in the UK, a market it is targeting to return to profit in the next 12 months.

Peter McPhillips, who joined the business as executive chairman of Hain Celestial’s UK and European operations in 2008, has stepped down from the role and now works on a consultative basis for the company.

Hain, which makes a range of private-label meat-free and convenience products for UK retailers, as well as the Linda McCartney brand, now has two commercial directors in the country who report directly to the US.

Jon Smythe, who is commercial director at Hain’s site in Fakenham, told just-food today (12 November) that the reorganisation, set in train in August, would allow the company’s senior management in the US to “get even closer to the UK business”.

Hain, which first crossed the Atlantic in 2006, has not made a profit in the UK since 2006/07. However, Hain has said it believes its business in the country will move back into the black during this fiscal year, which began in July.
