German retailer Metro Cash & Carry has been granted an Agriculture and Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) licence to operate in west Bengal, India, after threatening to “revise” its investment policy in the country.

Following a meeting of Bengal’s Left Front political leaders yesterday (28 September), it was decided to renew Metro’s licence to buy produce directly from farmers.

The licence will be reissued on 10 October, but will include certain conditions to be decided by the Left Front.
