Campbell Soup Co. has unveiled plans to extend production at its manufacturing facility in Maxton, North Carolina with the addition of a new soup line.

The company currently produces Select Harvest, Chunky, Swanson and Healthy Request soups and broths at the Maxton facility.

Campbell said that the “multi-million dollar” investment in new technology at the factory would allow it to produce soups and broths packaged in cartons.

The soup maker said it expects the expansion to add 50 jobs at the facility, which already employs 800 people.

The project is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2009.
