US cereal maker Ralcorp Holdings has issued a recall of thousands of cartons of oatmeal cereal due to an undeclared milk ingredient contained in some of the boxes.

Ralcorp’s Ralston Foods arm has recalled 14,664 cartons of Western Family Variety Pack Instant Oatmeal cereal after “fruit and cream” instant oatmeal packets were found in a batch of boxes.

Ralston said the boxes bear the “best if used by” date code of DEC0409N and were distributed in 12 states in the US by Western Family Foods.

The company said yesterday (15 September) that no illnesses had been reported to date and added that the US Food and Drug Administration was aware of the recall.
