A spokesperson for the company told just-food that the “damage caused was not significant”. No one was injured, as the superstore was empty at the time.

According to local reports, police investigating the incident have suggested that the bomb was most likely planted as a “warning” in a business dispute.

The entrance of multinational retailers into this Thai province has met considerable local opposition and it is understood that this store has been involved in a number of conflicts.

The Retail Business Operators Union, which spearheaded opposition to the construction of multinational hypermarkets in the province, has denied involvement.
