Dutch supermarket group Super de Boer today (27 August) posted first-half net profit of EUR6m (US$8.9m), up from EUR3m for the same period of last year.

Like-for-like sales increased 4.2% as the group’s modernisation programme boosted sales.


Net sales dropped to EUR776m, down from EUR924m, as the company streamlined operations by selling off underperforming outlets. Super de Boer disposed of 44 stores during 2007 and at the end of the first half it operated 312 outlets.


“We are satisfied with this profit development. Super de Boer is moving in the right direction, and we are maintaining the course we have set,” chief executive Jan Brouwer said.
