Sweden’s Axfood has opened its first Chinese procurement office in Shanghai today (11 August).
“A direct presence will enable us to develop our relationship with suppliers in the region,” a spokesperson for the retailer told just-food.
The spokesperson said that Axfood currently sources a considerable amount of its non-food products from China, but did not rule out the possibility that it may someday import food products from the region also.
“By being on location in China, we can assure all aspects of the purchasing process, including relations with suppliers, work environment issues, logistics, quality, delivery times and control of work conditions in factories,” said Jonas Peterson, purchasing manager for non-food products at Axfood.
