Carl Leaver joined M&S last year to head up its international units, a spokesperson for the UK retailer told just-food today (7 August). He assumed responsibilities for Internet and homeware at the end of last month.

“The position became vacant after John Dixon moved across to head up food. Carl … has taken on responsibility for homewares and Internet as this will give him a bit more direct retail experience,” the spokesperson said.

The move has prompted some press speculation that Leaver could be next in line for the top job at M&S when Sir Stuart steps aside in 2011.

Other internal candidates are said to include head of clothing Kate Bostock and finance and operations director Ian Dyson.
