McCormick & Co., the US spice maker, has been forced to sell off its Season-All assets in order to win regulatory clearance for its acquisition of seasonings business from Unilever.

The Federal Trade Commission granted its approval for McCormick’s US$604m deal with Unilever on the condition that Season-All would be sold.


McCormick’s said today (30 July) that it had agreed to sell Season-All to salt maker Morton Salt for $15m in cash. McCormick said its annual Season-All sales were $18m.


The FTC has launched a 30-day “comment period” after which the regulator may change its conditional approval before formally giving the green light.


McCormick struck its deal with Unilever over Lawry’s last autumn.
