The Japanese unit of UK confectionery and soft drinks group Cadbury Schweppes has reportedly said it will recall one million packs of chewing gum because it contains an additive that is banned in Japan.

Cadbury Japan will recall the packs of Clorets XP Strong Mint chewing gum, sold at ¥120 (US$1.01) per pack, reported Reuters, citing the Kyodo News Agency.

The gum is believed to contain a peppermint flavouring additive that is approved in the US and Europe as a food additive, but is not approved for use in Japan.
