French fruit and vegetable producers will launch an EUR175,000 (US$224,217) promotional campaign later this week to encourage children to eat fruit and vegetables.
It has been timed to coincide with the return to school after the summer holidays.
Co-funded by the state, the campaign is the first to be organised by GEFEL (Gouvernance Economique des Fruits et Légumes), a trade body recently set up to bring together fruit and vegetable producers in co-ordinated action.
Taking place over the next two weekends (3-5 September and 10-12 September), it will run radio ads, while retailers have pledged to give a prominent place to fruit and vegetables in their stores.
Melon, peach, nectarine, grapes, apples, pears, tomato and cucumber growers are supporting the campaign whose slogan is a “good return to school also means eating well with plenty of vitamins”.
